Ever wonder where all the time went?  Where did the morning go?  It's time for bed already? Oh my goodness it’s already time to go? 

We all lose track of time and we all would defiantly like to have a few more hours in a day!  One of my favorite quotes out there is that we have the same time in a day as Beyoncé.  She’s famous, successful, beautiful and still has the same 24 hours that we get!  I have no idea how Beyoncé gets her hours in a day (I suspect some research on the topic is about to happen), but I will share with you a few tricks I use to get more out of my day!

Complete the tasks you worry about the most. 


If you find yourself procrastinating maybe because you are dreading something or are fearful of its outcome.  Chances are pretty good that you find yourself worrying about it more than needed. 

Most of us realize that worrying only makes things worse and the outcome is as never as bad as it seems. 

Think about those items, pick a few on the top of your worry list.  Write them down.  Tackle them!  If it a seriously big deal, make a plan to tackle them. 

Worrying takes up so much valuable time in a day!  If you concur your task, or even have a plan to do so, your mind is cleared up to focus on your amazing cup of coffee or beautiful neighborhood walk.  Plus, worrying leaves those awful lines on your face!  I would love to avoid those!

Push yourself to get through tasks you hate faster. 



For example, you hate yard work.  Take a few moments to decide how you could do less of it to have more free time.  You could hire someone to take care of it, but if you don’t have those resources, we need a different plan.  You could decide to cut your lawn earlier in the morning so you have less interruptions of your neighbors and get it done faster.  You could decide to take care of it less often, but it may take more time each time you attend to it. Decide what works best for you. 

Just taking the time to pick a new strategy to tackle these items can help save you a lot of headache of worrying about it and cut down actual work time.


Leave work on time today.

So many of us get into the habit of staying late to finish a few last minute tasks that we were unable to complete in our normal shift.

Ten minutes turns in to 15, which turns into 20.  The next thing you know, it’s an hour later and your extra time in a day has disappeared!

Make it a point to leave work on time.  You will only get better at it if you start practicing this regularly. 

There is a point when you have to ask yourself if it can wait for tomorrow and what can you do to be more productive during your work day?   Leave on time.  Make it a goal. Meet a friend for dinner.  Have a great time!


Don’t hit the snooze button.

 

I used to struggle with this all the time!  At one point I would plan an hour worth of snoozing every morning! 

One day I finally came to the realization that having the snooze alarm go off so early wasn’t giving me restful sleep for that hour.  It was just making me mad!  Then I decided to take the plunge and avoid the snooze button.  I never went back! 

I came to understand that if I needed more rest and avoided hitting the snooze for an hour, I was going to have to find a way to get some extra sleep!  I also found that not snoozing for that time gave me a more peaceful sleep. 

Sleeping more can help you hold focus for a longer period of time while you are awake, instead of feeling groggy all the time!  Win = Win!

Warning: when trying this for the first time, be sure to set the alarm across the room, so you have to get up.


Nothing will ever be perfect!



Perfectionism is something that many people spend too much time on.  I have news for you.  You or anything you do is not meant to be perfect!  That is what makes you, you! I know this sounds cheesy, but it’s true. 

Think about how many extra hours you spend on making everything perfect.  When you were 80% there hours ago!   Seriously, take your time with what is important to you, not everything.  Recognize when it is time to move on!

Once you get to the point of nit picking, you’re going to have to decide that is good enough for right now.  Life’s a marathon not a sprint.  Getting anything to be even close to perfect will take years!  Years you could be learning a new skill, traveling the world or being an amazing friend.  Stop wasting your time on being perfect.  None of us are, join the club!



In conclusion, get more time back in your day by completing tasks your worry about the most, leaving work on time, avoiding the snooze button, beating perfection and completing task you hate faster and more efficiently.  These tips are a few manageable ideas to get you moving forward to a productive lifestyle!  Work on the action plan… and be more like Beyoncé!


Take Action Plan:

- Write down a task you worry about the most.  Tackle it right away or make a plan of how you will succeed.

- Leave work on time today.

- Don’t hit the snooze button in the morning.  Set your alarm for the correct time to wake up. 

- Give up perfection and join us in the sooooo not perfect club!

- Push yourself to complete tasks you hate faster.  Pick a hate able task.  Decide on a strategy that will help complete the task faster. Either that or just get it out of the way… right away!

I think I kinda hate myself for being the best procrastinator that I've ever met in my entire life and that's obviously not a compliment to take. When I have all the time to accomplish something that is needed to be done for a month or for a week, I always tend to waste all of that time. I've been like this since high school and I've been really having a hard time in getting rid of this attitude like I have no idea how to start it effectively. And now I'm really thankful that I came across with this article. I'm really determined to work on myself with every steps and tips that you gave. I think this is really the sign for me to start changing myself for the better good. This is such a great encouragement for me and for anyone who's really struggling to leave and change their negative acts behind.

I have this hobby of not leaving my workplace until I get the job done. Because of this, I always stay up late and had to drag myself every morning to go to work. I feel so fed up with my job and I'm on the edge of quitting. You're right when you said that not everything will be perfect. I have to practice on leaving work on time so I will have time to spend with my loved ones. Thanks for the tips!

Once I had count how many time I have distracted at work. And it was 14 times in one day. Just imagine how many time we lost on social media and coffee breaks.
